Rural Community Learning Initiative: COMM 468 – Klitsa Tutoring Video

In September 2011, a group of students from the Marketing Applications class (COMM 468) traveled to Port Alberni to develop a marketing plan for the Klitsa Tutoring program. Literacy Alberni Society is launching this new after-school tutoring program for kids from Kindergarten to Grade 12 as a social enterprise model. All the money raised goes back into Literacy Alberni to help fund free learning programs.

This applied learning project is sponsored by the Rural Community Learning Initiative (RCLI), a partnership between Sauder’s ISIS Research Centre, the UBC Community Learning Initiative, and the Irving K Barber Learning Centre.

The goal of the RCLI is to provide Sauder students the opportunity for professional skill development by applying their academic learning with community-based clients. In turn, through collaborations with ‘real life’ clients throughout BC, Sauder students are able to make meaningful contributions to small businesses and community organizations that otherwise might not have access to cutting edge business knowledge.
